The Danish medicinal cannabis pilot program has been extended

Intellectual Property & Life Science
The new legislation came into force on 1 January 2022 and entails several important changes to the current legal framework including, inter alia, a four-year extension of the current pro-gram as well as a requirement of re-issuing existing licenses.

In December 2021, the Danish Parliament decided to extend the existing medicinal cannabis pilot program. As a consequence of the extension, all licenses in the pilot program must be re-issued, and application forms for both imported and Danish-grown products will be significantly updated. Further, the amendments entail that the medicinal cannabis pilot program is extended for four years so that the pilot program now applies until 31 December 2025. As a result of the new amendments, the possibility for companies to grow and manufacture cannabis for medical use has now been made permanent.

By the end of 2024, the Danish Ministry of Health will once again re-evaluate the Danish medicinal cannabis pilot program.

The amended legislation can be accessed here and here.
