The future ownership of Danish Ship Finance has been decided

M&A

Lundgrens has - together with hard working internal teams from PFA and PKA - acted for the Danish pension funds PFA and PKA when the two pension giants joined forces with the Danish private equity sponsor Axcel to acquire a controlling stake in Danish Ship Finance A/S for a total purchase price of DKK 4.25 billion.

Danish Ship Finance has a strong position in the ship financing sector in Denmark and internationally, and the new owners wish to continue the company's current strategy and development.

"Every M&A transactions is different, and the acquisition of Danish Ship Finance is a good example of this. Acquiring a financially regulated entity is in itself an exciting challenge, and when you then add a dispersed and unique ownership structure of the target, S&Ps rating considerations as well as an acquisition financing consisting of a combination of equity, regulatory capital and bridge financing, you have a really exciting challenge", say Ian Tokley, Debt Capital Markets partner, and Mads Ilum, M&A partner, from Lundgrens.

The acquisition, which is expected to be completed in 2016, is subject to approval from the Danish FSA and relevant competition authorities.
