German private equity fund buys the Danish construction giant KPC

Lundgrens is pleased having assisted the founding family Poulsen and the other owners of KPC with their sale of the construction group to Activum SG Capital Management.

After 43 years in the construction industry, the construction company KPC has been sold to the German private equity fund Activum SG. KPC is a family-owned and employee-owned construction and property development company with more than 160 employees and a turnover in 2021 of DKK 2,3 billion.

The buyer, the German private equity firm Activum SG, also bought the competitor Casa in 2021, setting the stage for a giant merger of the two construction firms if approved by the Competition and Consumer Authority under the merger control provisions of the Competition Act. The merger will not be carried through until it has been approved by either the Competition Council or the Competition and Consumer Authority.

In a press release, the founder of KPC, Kurt Poulsen, states the following about the sale: “We have chosen the buyer with great care and envisage that KPC and Casa together develop into Denmark's most innovative player in the market for real estate development and turnkey contracts. We are passing on a very strong KPC in good hands. KPC is built on the same solid and shared values that Casa stands for, and a new company will be able to solve even larger and more complex tasks,"

The sale took place on the basis of a record account from the first half of 2021, where the company landed a turnover of almost DKK 1,4 billion. for the first six months of the year against DKK 1,1 billion. for the same period the year before.
